Physical attack towards the journalist Valon Syla in Kosovo

The journalist Valon Syla was physically attacked around 12:00 pm, in Pejton, a neighbourhood of the capital city of Kosovo, Prishtina. The images of the journalist while being assaulted on the street, spread rapidly on social media. The cause of this attack is known to be a post of him on Facebook, where he comments on the influx of immigrants coming back to Kosovo, these days.

“I beg the grunts that in this rush fixes my teeth here. You fix our economy when you fix your teeth here. Look, fix, and polish your nails. Eat kebab, drink Redbull, whoever can order a liter of vodka even better… Because it is cheaper. Are you spending for us? We in Germany and Switzerland did not calm down. Sleep like canned sardines in Europe. You do it all for yourselves. Welcome to free Kosovo. Do not exaggerate with your expenses here because you may enrich us”, was Syla’s statement that aroused many comments and led to violence against him.

The suspect for the physical attack is named Bashkim Jupa, from the village of Molliq in Gjakova, living in Switzerland. He is reported to be the brother of the PDK party, former Deputy Minister of Trade, Bekim Jupa, who denied being aware of the situation. The police spokesman for the region of Prishtina Bajram Krasniqi, recently reported that the attacker of the journalist Syla has been handed over to the police.
