“With a functional Constitutional Court, Albania meets condition for opening negotiations for EU membership. This is a giant leap forward. Congratulations to the people of Albania! Let’s keep moving forward!”
This was the reaction of the US Ambassador in Albania, Yuri Kim, after sixth member of the Albanian Constitutional Court, Përparim Kalo, took oath. His appointment made the court functional.
The Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, tweeted about the issue: “Excellent news! With nomination of 6th member by President Ilir Meta, the Constitutional Court becomes functional”.
Varhelyi has described the case as “a great achievement for the institutions and the people of Albania”. He also stated that this step “completes the list of conditions for 1st ICG”.
Head of OSCE in Albania, Vincenzo del Monaco, has also expressed his pleasure on the court reaching minimal quorum. “Another great news and a very important step”, he writes.
From Twitter, he also congratulates the latest member of the court: “Congratulations judge Kalo on Your appointment and ad majora!”
This news about the Constitutional Court in Albania comes in as one of the most important ones in the last days of the year.
Despite internationals have expressed their enthusiasm on the case, there is still no reaction from Prime Minister, Edi Rama, and leader of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha.
